2024 Chevy Suburban

Having enough room for a family of nine, the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is one of the largest sport utility vehicles in the United States of America. This three-row behemoth is available with two V-8 gas engines from GM’s iconic ECOTEC family. You can also equip this full-size Chevy SUV with an I-6 diesel engine that hails from the Duramax series. Depending on the powertrain, the 2024 Suburban tows well more than 8,000 net pounds. Let’s explore the amazing capabilities of all three engine blocks that are available in this spacious vehicle.

5.3-L EcoTec3 V8 Engine

Standard on most of the 2024 Suburban trims, the 5.3-liter engine block generates an SAE-compliant total of 355 net horsepower. This legendary V-8 powertrain easily spits out 383 pound-feet of torque in compliance with rigorous SAE measurements. Having an aluminum constitution, the eight-cylinder engine block includes direct injection for explosive combustion and efficient performance. This naturally aspirated powerplant has a maximum towing capacity of up to 8,300 gross pounds when adhering to SAE J2807 standards. To achieve such great trailering capability, you must pair the 5.3-L engine with a conventional 2WD system and the Max Trailering Package. You’ll also get a special tow/haul mode from the 10-speed automatic transmission system on this full-size Chevy SUV. For its potent characteristics, the standard V-8 engine is incredibly efficient because of the Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM). Originally developed by General Motors several generations ago, the DFM intelligently shuts off some parts of the engine block. When maximum towing is needed, the DFM fully engages all eight cylinders during combustion. Following EPA metrics, the 5.3-L gas engine has a projected fuel economy of up to 20 mpg on the highway. This entry-level engine draws unleaded gas from a 28-gallon tank.

6.2-L EcoTec3 V8 Engine

Installed by default on the 2024 Chevy Suburban High Country model, the 6.2-L engine earns a 420-hp rating per SAE compliance. This humongous V-8 engine bursts out 460 lb-ft of peak torque when revolving at just over 4,000 RPM. You’ll find familiar mechanical technologies on this potent propulsion system, including the DFM and direct injection. Synced with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, the 6.2-L engine is capable of towing 8,200 gross pounds. Of course, you must get the Max Trailering Package if you want such excellent capabilities for your family. The 6.2-L engine is available on the RST, Z71, and Premier editions. This massive gas engine has a targeted fuel economy of 20 mpg on the highway. A 28-gallon fuel tank feeds this upgraded engine block.

Duramax 3.0-L Turbo-Diesel Engine

Infused with the proprietary Duramax technology, the 2024 Suburban’s 3.0-L engine block whips out 277 net horsepower at a tachometer reading of exactly 3,750 RPM. Compressing diesel fuel at high ratios during the power stroke, this six-cylinder engine effortlessly unleashes 460 lb-ft of peak torque at 1,500 RPM. A 10-speed automatic transmission system is perfectly compatible with this turbocharged powerplant. This signature diesel engine allows you to haul a trailer with up to 8,000 net pounds. Complying with EPA criteria, the Duramax engine offers a fuel efficiency of up to 27 mpg on the highway. This turbo powertrain is not available for the rugged 2024 Chevy Suburban Z71 model. Otherwise, all five other trims may be equipped with this patented engine block.
